LRS Architects’ design for the new headquarters of the Global Fund seamlessly integrates into its surroundings, nestled amidst trees along the Route de Ferney. The compact yet articulated structure emphasizes the urban and landscape-oriented context of its location.
Architectural Expression
The building’s folded contours strategically position it within the landscape, creating a dynamic relationship with the adjacent United Nations Park. Its geometric volume presents a series of facets that gradually reveal the building’s form to passers-by, blurring the distinction between the built environment and nature.
Functional Layout
Comprising three interconnected wings, the building’s layout centers around a circulation and service core. On the ground floors, semi-public and representative functions such as the entrance, seminar rooms, auditorium, cafeteria, and library are arranged along a path that opens up to the surrounding landscapes. Above, seven levels accommodate offices that can be adapted according to organizational needs.
Architectural Style
The architectural character is defined by a facade featuring expansive windows framed by imposing anodized aluminum barriers. These elements not only establish a visual connection between the interior and exterior but also provide privacy for workspaces facing the street.
Distinctive Design Elements
Vertical blades, set at a slight diagonal angle, along with reflective anodized materials, contribute to the building’s distinct appearance. This dynamic design feature ensures that the building’s facade responds to its surroundings, changing in appearance based on variations in light, movement, and environmental conditions.
