Introduction
Nestled on the outskirts of Baroda near the village of Aampad, the Sitish Parikh Farmhouse, designed by Dipen Gada and Associates and completed in 2023, stands as a harmonious retreat amidst nature. Spread across 4200 square meters, this farmhouse epitomizes a seamless blend of architectural elegance and natural serenity.
Client Brief and Conceptualization
Commissioned by a prominent developer seeking a tranquil second home, the Sitish Parikh Farmhouse embodies simplicity and relaxation. With complete creative freedom granted by the client, the architects embarked on crafting a residence that fosters a deep connection with nature.
Plot Layout and Design Challenges
Situated on a squarish plot with an existing orchard, the farmhouse was envisioned as a single-floor dwelling with a distinct countryside charm. Embracing elements such as bricks, sloping roofs, and Mangalore tiles, the design aimed to evoke the essence of rural living amidst lush greenery.
Exterior and Spatial Planning
Designed in an ‘L-shape,’ the farmhouse seamlessly integrates public and private spaces, with a central courtyard adorned by a small swimming pool. Encircled by a tall frame of exposed brick, the courtyard invites ample sunlight while fostering a sense of openness. The journey towards the house unfolds with delightful surprises, including a captivating concave wall and ornate entry foyer.
Interior Design and Integration with Nature
Interiors adorned in soothing white hues, complemented by indigenous materials like cane and lime plaster, evoke a sense of tranquility. Each space boasts a semi-covered courtyard and ambulatory, blurring the boundaries between indoors and outdoors. Vibrant accents and lush greens accentuate the monochromatic palette, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere.
Conclusion
The Sitish Parikh Farmhouse stands as a testament to architectural innovation and reverence for nature. With its seamless integration with the surrounding landscape, this humble abode offers a tranquil escape from the bustle of urban life, inviting residents to unwind and connect with the beauty of their natural surroundings.
