Transforming Spaces: Ward with V Dots by B+P Architects

The Ward with V dots project by B+P Architects aims to revitalize the space of an old hospital while providing support for vulnerable teenagers in Sanxia.

Rejuvenating a Historic Space

With a history spanning 70 years, the old hospital has been repurposed into a vital community hub for the elderly residents of Sanxia. Additionally, it serves as a training venue for local teenagers in need of support, offering life skills training and internship opportunities. The project also envisions the space as a venue for factory tours and as an internship store, further integrating it into the local community.

Preserving Heritage, Embracing Innovation

The design strategy focuses on preserving the original features of the hospital while incorporating new elements to meet the needs of its future applications. By respecting the integrity of the old building, the project aims to breathe new life into the space while retaining its historical charm.

Incorporating Structural Innovations

One of the key design elements is the integration of a new structural system called V dots. These structural elements serve multiple functions, acting as partitions, inner windows, furniture, and exhibition booths. The V dots not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of the space but also provide structural support, creating a versatile environment for various activities.

Splitting Spaces Creatively

The ward rooms are divided into two distinct areas: a bean product factory and a restaurant. This division is achieved through the use of white box structures and black V frameworks. The transparent nature of the V frameworks allows for visibility between the factory and the restaurant, facilitating observation of the production process while maintaining a separation between the dining area and service zone.

Emphasizing Connectivity and Transparency

Windows and entrances play a crucial role in the design, serving as key elements for connectivity and transparency. The original windows and columns are strategically aligned to create a sense of openness and connection with the surrounding courtyard. By preserving the proportions and characteristics of the original windows, the design ensures a seamless transition between the interior and exterior spaces, fostering a dynamic interplay between activities inside and views outside.

In essence, the Ward with V dots project exemplifies a harmonious blend of heritage preservation and innovative design, creating a space that is not only functional but also enriching for the community it serves.
